Chinese South Africans have sued (and won) to have their racial designation switched from Coloured (slightly more privileged than Blacks) to Black, so that they can benefit from the South African equivalent of Affirmative Action.  Chinese people are now Black in South Africa.

—"The Pretoria High Court today granted a landmark ruling that Chinese South Africans are to be included in the definition of "black people" in legislation designed to benefit previously disadvantaged groups.

Judge Cynthia Pretorius granted an order in terms of which Chinese South Africans are included in the definition of "black people" in the Broad-Based Economic Empowerment Act and the Employment Equity Act."

This situation is profoundly disturbing.  It illuminates who completely warped the concept of race is in South Africa and how race is ultimately a social construct.  I wish Black Americans could switch racial categories with Chinese Americans...
