Megan Williams
Whatever happened to Megan Williams? The woman who was abducted, raped, beaten, stabbed, held against her will, all the while suffering indignities like being called "nigger" by 6 white people.
The West Virginian authorities have decided not to charge Megan's captors with a hate crime, even though the basis for their crime was Megan's blackness.

At a gathering of activists protesting the case, Al Sharpton called for the inclusion of hate crime status in the criminal charges.
—"The best way to keep us out of town is to handle hate crimes the right way here in town," the civil rights activist told a crowd of nearly 100 people gathered at the First Baptist Church in honor of Megan Williams.
"If the federal government can intervene to protect dogs from Michael Vick in Virginia then they can do something to protect Megan Williams in West Virginia," Sharpton told The Associated Press.
I've got to agree with Rev. Al on this one. The sheer lack of media coverage on this torture case is a shame and not considering these crimes of a hate-based nature is thoroughly insulting.
I want to find out when future protests are... I want to attend.

I agree w/the Rev. Al as well (scary). If the rights of animals can be protected, why not people? She was tortured and she suffered because she was black. Period. End of story. Anyone trying to pass the buck on this matter as if it's not a hate crime is an idiot.

The case will be taken to a GJ in January. I guess they're not big on speedy trials in WV.
